One of the most asked questions I get from relocating clients is the Real estate tax liability for the various areas in and around Charlotte. Therefore I have compiled a list of tax locations and the tax rate that each charge. Please keep in mind that in order to estimate the amount on any home you must multiply the tax value of the home by the rate which is stated in per hundred dollar value. If you do not have the taxable value as set by the municipality then a safe calculation is to multiply the tax rate by the sales price. The results should be slightly higher than actual but it will give you a worst case scenario.
Also keep in mind that for any home located in both the county and incorporated town you will have two taxes to pay...township and county. For example a home located in the City of Monroe would have a total tax rate of $1.1667 per hundred which would be comprised of the Union County tax rate of .6367 and the Monroe rate of .55. This would equal a total rate of 1.1667 and that figure would be multiplied by the home tax value. (Please note that some districts also have a minor tax dedicated to the Fire Dept that must be added to the total).
