Everyone knows that the  Charlotte region has had a constant and upward population growth over the past  two decades  due, in part, to the relocation of many  companies, large and small, from other parts of the country. Companies such as Royal Insurance; Hearst Publication; IBM; TIAA-CREF; Continental Tire and others have moved  to the area because of  better working conditions and a lower cost of living. However, the number of new inhabitants to the area over the past year is staggering.

According to new data from the Ameican Community Survey the Charlotte area has had a net growth of 8 0,000 new residents in the past year. Yes, that figure is net, subtracting from the influx those that have moved away. This figure far exceeds that 50,000 that was commonly believed to be our growth and does not include those people who moved intrastate...just interstate.

To put this in perspective, this figure is higher that the entire population of Ashville which has approximately 73,000 population.

Where are the newcomers coming from?  According to the survey the states that top the list are New York; Florida; Virginia; Georgia; Texas; Ohio; New Jersey; California; Maryland and Alabama.
